Changes to Level 3 Services for Equine Clients

March 1, 2021

Here we go again but fortunately, the Level 3 equine vet care rules are slightly relaxed from previous lockdowns.equine vet care Level 3

Level 3 means we can offer non-essential services, so long as we take measures to keep you & our team avoiding face-to-face contact.

In the Level 2 zone, we can provide a full range of equine veterinary services. Note – some of our vets live in the Level 3 zone so we will ask you to keep a safe 2-metre distance and wear PPE gear so we all stay safe.

How does this look?

Level 3

  • Our equine vets are on call 24/7 and able to attend to any emergency.
  • If you need to see an equine vet, please call us on 09 2382471 and we will triage your horse over the phone, prior to visiting to ensure we know what to expect and can keep everyone safe.
  • We will be working in pairs, which enables us to keep 2-metres from you when at your yard. We will ask questions before attending your horse about how well they tolerate veterinary examinations and treatments. If we need more than 2 people we will advise you how this will be done safely.
  • Our Equine Vets will be wearing PPE (masks, gloves and face shields) and we ask you to wear a mask too where appropriate.
  • Equine clients are not able to come into our clinics. For medications and supplies, please phone or even better email your order to us (equine@fvs.co.nz). We will send you payment options and have it ready for collection from our dropbox when you arrive. Contact us for more details. Phone: 09 238 2471.
  • If you have flu-like symptoms or are in self-isolation, please let us know in advance of the visit, so we can plan accordingly.

Level 2

  • Our equine vets are on call 24/7 and able to attend to any emergency.
  • We will be keeping a 1-metre distance from you while at your property. A vet from Level 3 will maintain a 2-metre distance.
  • For most calls, one vet will attend unless doing prolonged procedures that require two vets (such as geldings or X-ray series). Our Equine Vets have a range of PPE (masks, gloves and face shields) available for both our vets and for you to wear where appropriate. This will be the case when working less than 1-metre space for more than a few seconds or if your vet is from Level 3.
  • We would prefer to just have one owner present to hold the horse. If other owners are required to be there, they should be >2m away. They will be included in the contact tracing log.
  • You are still welcome into Level 2 zone clinics. In the clinic, we will be hand sanitising, have sneeze guards at the customer service desk and will be regularly sanitising all surfaces including EFTPOS machines and counters. Also, we can only allow a limited number of people into the clinic at a time so if you are in a hurry please phone or even better email your order to us. We can have it ready for collection when you arrive. Contact Tracing – please scan the govt QR Code at the front door on arrival.
  • If you have flu-like symptoms or are in self-isolation, please let us know in advance of the visit, so we can plan accordingly.

Look after yourself and stay safe.
