Important COVID-19 Level 4 Lockdown Update from Franklin Vets

August 17, 2021

While yesterday’s announcement was not the news we wanted to hear, we’ve faced these challenges before, and we are prepared to do it again. As veterinarians, we are classified as an essential service. However, there are some limits to what we are able to do at alert level 4.cat covid

What does this look like?
Essential services are those that if left until the end of the Alert Level 4 restrictions will negatively impact your pet’s welfare. Therefore, we will be able to:

  • Treat sick or injured animals
  • Prescribe & dispense veterinary medicines including flea and worm treatment
  • Vaccinate puppies
  • Perform surgery such as bilateral cruciate repair
  • Supply pet essentials such as food.

Non-essential services are those that won’t impact negatively on your pet’s welfare if left until after lockdown restrictions. These include:

  • Annual health checks
  • Routine vaccinations in adult animals
  • Routine surgery such as desexing and dental work.

What happens if you need to visit us?

All appointments must be booked & supplies ordered ahead of time.

Either ring your local clinic or book online. Please let our team be prepared for you.

What happens when you get to the clinic?

Please bring your mobile phone and a mask, stay in your car and call us for further instructions.

Find your clinic’s number here

Depending on what you have come for, our team will give you instructions re how the consult or supply pick up is going to happen.

In most situations, you will not be able to enter the clinic building under level 4 restrictions, and our team will collect your pet from the front door. All dogs need to have a secure collar and lead on and all cats need to be in a secure carrier. You will need to wear a mask as per the government’s regulations. Please do not be offended at these changes to normal practice.

We will be maintaining physical distancing protocols & wearing masks for all interactions with you.

For the safety of our team, we will only be able to make house calls depending on risk assessment. If you cannot come out, call the clinic and we will arrange for a remote consultation.
