Ticks are common throughout the Franklin Vets area. Ticks are generally present all the year but are most easily seen during the summer months. This is when the large adult ticks are likely to be found on livestock in large numbers.
In young calves there may be enough adult ticks present to cause significant blood loss, poor growth, or death. Products such as Bayticol, Python and Flumethrin can be used to control ticks.
In New Zealand ticks also transmit the cattle disease Thieleria. Follow the link for more information on Thieleria.
