Companion Animal Services

Our new Karaka veterinary clinic offers convenient consultations and treatments for your pets. Should further diagnostic or surgical services be required, your pet can be transported to and treated at our BESTPRACTICE® accredited Papakura clinic which is open 7 days.

Our Karaka clinic also sells pet supplies including food, flea & worm treatment, bedding, litter and accessories. There is also a limited range of lifestyle block and equine supplies.

Phil Macleod,  Director & Veterinarian heads the companion animal vets, customer service & veterinary nursing team.

Companion Animal Vets

Through our vets commitment and on-going studies, our clients (and their owners) are assured a higher level of care.  A number of our vets have developed areas of special interest so our companion animals receive comprehensive medical and surgical care from a team who have the latest equipment and technology at their fingertips, all housed within modern facilities.

Phil graduated from Massey University in 1989 and after some years in mixed and small animal practice joined Franklin Vets as a small animal veterinarian at the Papakura clinic in 1995. He became a Director of the Practice in 2003. Phil has developed special interest in the areas of small animal medicine and ultra-sonography and gained membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 1999.

Family and the occasional triathlon take up his spare time.

Dr Karli Bowler-Houston Veterinarian

Karli has a special interest in nutrition and rehabilitation and studied Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennesee.  She loves helping animals feel better by creating exercise programs and using hands on therapy for those who suffer with decreased mobility, arthritis, neurological issues or post-surgical patients.

When not at work Karli enjoys running and doing agility with her dog Mowgli.

Mary-Beth is passionate about all aspects of companion animal care and has a particular interest in clinical pathology and nutrition.

In her spare time Mary-Beth enjoys bird watching and spending time with family and friends in the Marlborough Sounds.

Clare has worked for Franklin Vets for the past 17 years and she really enjoys working here as she loves animals and serving our wonderful clients. She has four cats and a dog of her own and she enjoys taking her dog to the beach, and swimming, reading, travel and gardening.

Clare looks forward to meeting new clients at the Karaka branch and hopefully seeing some of our Papakura clients over there too.

Karen joins Franklin Vets having previously worked as a medical receptionist – in Karen’s own words – she has swapped humans for animals.

Karen and her husband live on a lifestyle block and have 9 beef animals, 4 chooks, 2 cats and a dog. Karen passion for animals started as a little girl growing up on her parents 317 acres sheep and beef farm North of Dargaville. Pet lambs and horses were a big part of her life. Later Karen and her husband managed a large dairy farm and also share milked their own herd for 3 years.

Karen works at both Karaka and Papakura branches and looks forward to meeting existing and new clients to Franklin Vets.
