Paeroa Vet Services

Paeroa Veterinary Services merged with Franklin Vets on the 1st of October 2016.  This merger brings an opportunity for Franklin Vets to support our growing Kopu clinic, as well as having the opportunity to bring new ideas and experienced vets and support staff into our team.

Farm Services

Our farm services are available 24/seven. Veterinarians Bruce Nicol and Ivan Petch lead a team of dairy, lifestyle, equine and companion animal vets.

Dr Danielle Thomson – Branch Manager

Danielle leads the team at Paeroa Vets where she has been since graduating from Massey in 2012. She enjoys working with both large and companion animals.

Danielle is originally from Waihi Beach. and she is involved in many sports, and enjoys spending time with the love of her life, Benji her Siamese cat.

Dr Bruce Nicol

Bruce graduated 40 years ago and practiced in Te Puke, then Waihi after an OE, and settled in Paeroa 31 years ago as a partner and mixed animal practitioner at Paeroa Vets.

Bruce is a keen fisherman, golfer, squash and tennis player and a rugby fanatic. He is an “expert” on all other sports, and has visited most rugby and cricket grounds around the world.

Dr Ivan Petch

Ivan graduated 39 years ago and has been a partner and mixed animal practitioner at Paeroa Vet Services for 35 years after starting out at Te Kauwhata. He sold the practice to Franklin Vets in 2016 as part of succession planning.

Ivan has a small block to manage and also enjoys fishing, classic cars, travel, squash, tennis and golf and is treasurer of both the Tennis & Squash club and the Paeroa Rotary club.

Dr Gemma Withers

Gemma grew up in Pukekohe and after finishing her studies at Massey in 2012, she headed down south to work before returning closer to home. Gemma has been with the Paeroa Vets team since 2013, working with both large and companion animals.

When not at work, Gemma can be found on her farm in Kaiaua.

Linka grew up close to Cape Town, South Africa. She graduated from Pretoria University in 2017, after which she worked with both large and small animals at a government clinic in Kimberley. It was always a dream to work abroad and she joined the Paeroa Vets in February 2019.

Linka enjoys anything outdoors, travelling, sport and photography and she looks forward to exploring what New Zealand, especially the North Island has to offer.

Neil is originally from the small rural town of Sefton in North Canterbury where he grew up on a lifestyle block. He studied a Bachelor of Science (Ecology) at Lincoln University before studying for his veterinary degree at Massey University and graduated in 2018. Neil enjoys all types of animals and works with both our pet and farm clients.

Outside of the clinic he enjoys playing sports and outdoor recreation activities, especially SCUBA diving and is looking forward to exploring what the Hauraki and Coromandel regions have to offer.

Steph Wallace – Vet Tech

Steph joined the team in April. Steph graduated from Vet Nursing in 2012 but didn’t discover her love for working with large animals until 2016. She now gets the best of both worlds and works with both large and companion animals.

In her spare time, Steph likes going on bush walks with her dog, Bear, and working on her house with her husband.

Kae Petch

Kae has lived in Paeroa for most of her life – moving down the road from Kerepehi.  She has worked at Paeroa Vets for over 20 years seeing many changes in the vet world during this time.

Outside of work Kae enjoys travelling and has been a keen squash, netball and basketball player and is still involved in coaching.

Companion Animal Services

Our clinic is fully equipped, and open Monday to Friday. We offer medical and surgical facilities, in house diagnostic services including digital X-ray and blood analysis, and we have a range of vet-approved pet supplies.
